Back from the holidays, here’s a free EP I just heard today for the first time, from a great new label called Planet Terror.  Definitely worth the download.  Here’s one for starters…

The Hopelessly Sad Story of the Hideous End of the World December 16, 2008

Gangpol & Mit are two french guys, one does music and one does visuals, well for the most part, they do all sorts of stuff but from what I gather those are their major roles.  They record and perform music/videos for both adults and children.  Apparently at first they tried the slower, simpler approach when playing for kids, but found that they preferred the darker, faster, funner material.  Everything they make is golden.  And one day, once the rest of the world catches up, I expect them to be huge.  Here’s a live video I just found on youtube:

Super Heavy December 14, 2008

The Bug’s new collaboration with a fellow named Roger Robinson is tantalizing; the samples provided on their myspace for their upcoming album Super Heavy sound like a throwback to Bristol in the early 90’s.  Which was what originally seduced me out from underneath the cloven hooves of country music.  That and The Tea Party.  But I digress…

Few labels manage to hone into a unique and recognizable sound as Ghost Box does.  They don’t put out a lot of albums, but what they do release is all tuned into that retro 70’s National Film Board Of Canada era, or the BBC equivalent I guess… vintage synths, nostalgic melodies that are equal parts mystery, love and danger, samples that provide useful instruction for everyday life… stuff from BoC’s wet dreams… Belbury Poly and The Advisory Circle both specialize in this and the latter’s latest, Other Channels, is a humble masterpiece.

One track really won’t do, here’s two in order to give you a proper taste:

Radiovista II.  It’s been a while, and no more mixes for now, just daily musical discoveries, when I have the time to share them.  To start I thought I would just post a song I found this morning, a new tune from the sometimes-creepy but always-engaging Momus.  In a collaboration with a breakcore musician named Joe.  Thus, Joemus was born.  This particular number seems in balance with the current state of teen bad-boy infatuation:
